Gator Website Builder

HostGator has many different features to choose from, and almost all of them are available in even the cheapest plan. There's unlimited pages, storage and bandwidth, a free domain name (if you choose annual billing), and it includes an SSL certificate to keep your users safe. There’s roughly 200+ mobile-friendly templates, so you’ll be able to personalize your website with ease.

Gator also comes with support for password-protected pages, analytics to help understand your audience, and 24/7 live chat. If you ever have questions or don’t know where to start, you can easily email or call the support phone line to keep your site running smoothly.

Plans and pricing

HostGator offers three different plans to help your business go virtual. All plans are drag-and-drop, and you can upgrade or downgrade from any hosting option at any time. Each plan is designed so that it’s easy to use - you’ll most likely be able to start right away with little to no previous website building experience. Each plan also comes with a $200.00 advertisement voucher.

The great thing about Gator website builder is all plans include unlimited storage and unmetered bandwidth - rare for a web host this affordable.

The first option, called the Starter plan, costs $3.84 per month. This plan is a great one if you just want to build a more basic website right away. You can choose your domain name, customize any of the templates, and you’ll have an SSL Certificate. For everything that’s included, this plan is a great deal.

The Premium plan is designed with more SEO tools to bring higher traffic to your website. At $5.99 per month, this plan includes everything in the Starter plan but also comes with higher level customer support. You’ll have the extra help from HostGator right at your fingertips. This plan also comes with G Suite productivity tools, a place to create your own blog, and social media tools so you can market your business right from Instagram and Twitter.

The Ecommerce plan comes with everything mentioned in previous plans, but also includes an ecommerce option. Now you can sell products directly from your website and market your business to a larger audience. This plan costs $9.22 per month, and comes with tools to create your own coupons and manage your inventory. There’s a place for shipping details and a tax calculator.

Interface

The interface is pretty easy to navigate. Moments after handing over your card details, a HostGator email arrived asking us to verify our email address. We clicked a link, the website displayed a 'verified' message and redirected us to Gator's web dashboard. A left-hand sidebar enables managing key areas of your hosting (websites, domains), making it easy to drag-and-drop your images, text, and videos. The opening screen prompts you to create your website, and once you're up and running, gives you a few very basic stats (unique visitors, total visits, page views, bounce rate).

Features

Gator makes it easy to move parts of your website around, readjust the templates to your needs, and pick your domain name. To change something, click any object within a section - a text block, an image, a menu, social media buttons. You’ll then find a display with a toolbar with new actions you can take. These start with a decent set of standard options, including the ability to add animations (have an image fly in from the left, for instance), use drop shadows, or have an element that moves with the page. If you’re looking to display your portfolio or want a website that’s creative, these tools will help you add lots of unique features.

Add a video gallery, for instance, and you can set up the number of items on a space, how they're positioned, the entrance and exit transitions. There’s even an option for setting a transition timer, SEO information to define what the gallery contains, and you can add any customizations (like displaying a pop-up image when an element is clicked).

Competition

GoDaddy, WebStarts, and Webnode are all competitors to HostGator. Not all web hosts provide helpful blog articles to help you choose your domain name. Just because you chose a specific layout for your new section, doesn’t mean you’re stuck with it. You have full control over all elements. You can move them around the section, resize them, and crop images. You also have pixel-level control over where to place each element. This isn’t as common among other web hosts so it’s a great feature that’s part of Gator website builder.

Final thoughts

Gator website builder's smartly-designed editor is a great way to quickly create professional and good-looking websites. Even if you're starting a project for the first time, you’ll still be able to easily use Gator and experiment with the design tools. The integrated blog and web store are relatively basic which makes it super easy for beginners to use. If you have questions on any of the features, you can always email or call the customer support so you won’t get stuck.
